Buddhist TV series on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
March 2007
Dr. Franz Metcalf
Beginning the third year in its efforts to introduce the teachings of
Buddhism through TV programming, the Society for the Promotion
of Buddhism (aka Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai [BDK]) is airing The
Buddhist Way of Life every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on KXLA -
Channel 44. Channels may vary depending on the cable service.
In March, the program features the Third and Fourth episodes of
Franz Metcalf, author of books such as "What would Buddha do?"
and "Buddha in your backpack: Everyday Buddhism for teens"
Dr. Metcalf focuses on giving people useful everyday advice on
how to apply Buddhism and Buddhist ways of thinking to their
everyday problems. Formerly a lecturer at California State
University of Los Angeles, he has since given up the classroom to
focus on his family and his writing.
In the March program, he talks to a group of young adults, and
gives practical life advice in a group discussion setting, as well as to
respond to questions from his book.
In the Third and Fourth weeks of March, the program will focus
on Prof. Duncan Williams, formerly a lecturer at the University of
California Irvine, and currently teaching at the University of
California, Berkeley. Specializing in Japanese and American
Buddhism, he is also the author of many books on Buddhism.
