Buddhist TV series on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

     In the third year in its efforts to introduce the teachings of

Buddhism through TV programming, the Society for the Promotion

of Buddhism (aka Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai [BDK]) is airing The

Buddhist Way of Life every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on KXLA -

Channel 44. Channels may vary depending on the type of TV service you have.

 

 

Dr. Duncan Williams

 

   In April, the program features the third episode (April 1) and the fourth episode (April 8) of Dr. Duncan Williams, formerly a lecturer at the University of California, Irvine, and currently teaching at the University of California, Berkeley. Specializing in Japanese and American Buddhism, Dr. Williams is also the author of many books on Buddhism.

 

    On April 8, Dr. Williams will talk about Buddhism and the environment, focusing on how Buddhism encourages us to coexist with the rest of nature in a mutually benefiting way.

 

 

Dr. Robert Thurman

 

    In the third (April 15), fourth (April 22) and fifth week (April 29), the program will feature Dr. Robert Thurman, professor at Columbia University in New York.

 

     Prof. Thurman is the first American to be ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist monk, but put aside his robes to teach Buddhism in an academic setting. He will explain how Tibetan Buddhism is like a treasure chest which contains various forms of Buddhism. He will talk about the commonalities and differences between the Buddhism of Tibet and Japan. He also will also introduce some of the training he had as a young monk in Tibet and will also talk about the current state of Tibetan Buddhism in America.

 

   Prof. Thurman has written many books on Buddhism, such as "Inner Revolution" and  "Infinite Life."
