Rev. Shumyo Kojima of Zenshuji Soto Mission in Little Tokyo.

 

   The Society for the Promotion of Buddhism (Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai) is airing “The Buddhist Way of Life” every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on KXLA – Channel 44 (The channel may vary on cable companies).

 

    In September, the program focuses on Zen and zazen (sitting meditation) through interviews with Rev. Shumyo Kojima of Zenshuji Soto Mission in Little Tokyo.

 

   In the episode on Sept. 2, Rev. Kojima speaks about the history, theory and teaching of Zen. On Sept. 9, Rev. Kojima explains about zazen or sitting which is the practice to overcome and release one’s thoughts and problems. On Sept. 16, Rev. Myoshin Lang shows the proper etiquette in a formal zazen session, from how to enter the room, to sitting posture and so forth.
